The History of Coffee

Part 1 of 4 - Ethiopian Origins

Throughout all the different regions of the world that grow coffee, each region can likely trace the history of their beans back to the “ancient forests on the Ethiopian plateau”. While there are no facts leading to the origin of coffee, there are many myths and legends passed down from generations that have led those in search of to the realms of Ethiopia.

It was there, many centuries ago, that a goat herder by the name of Kaldi first explored the usefulness of the beans. He supposedly found, through the help of a local Monk, that these special “berries” gave his goats energy, and soon found that it helped him become more alert and awake through evening prayer and long hours tending to his herd.

Word quickly spread within and outside of the Montessori and to the Arabian peninsula. Then shortly thereafter coffee then began to find it’s way around the world and has continued to thrive ever since.
